I have to admit, it feels weird to take a break! I’ve sent you five editions a week, every week, for the past 26 weeks this year. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve uncovered together.

That includes identifying over $50 million in women’s health research cuts, from postpartum issues to menopause to cervical cancer. You’ve helped surface stories no one else is tracking, and I’m so grateful.

Why I’m asking

Maternie isn’t a venture-backed company chasing explosive growth. No shade to venture — it’s essential for developing medical tools and treatments. But media’s a different game. I want to build something that truly serves the patient, and that takes time.

Because without consistent, serious reporting on menopause, endometriosis, postpartum recovery, and more, these issues stay invisible. When there’s no one on the beat, the world assumes it must not be a real problem.

What success looks like
(Or: how does this make any money?)

Growing the audience from ~10,000 to 25,000–50,000 subscribers will allow us to build real advertising revenue. Funds from this effort will help us break news and deliver investigations that bring in organic readers — people who sign up because a story moved them, not because they saw an ad.

We’ll also launch paid classes on topics like menopause and postpartum, led by experts and grounded in science (not supplement sales). This effort will help build those too.
